Festival Poster by Sam McKenzie (@ohnosam)

Join us for the launch of the official BORLFF beer by Brisbane’s Working Title Brew Co and a brewpub screening of the original Steve McQueen 1958’s The Blob! Everyone that comes down for a beer will get a free pink BLOB enamel pin designed by Nelson Gibbins.

BRAINDEAD is a 4.5% strawberry, raspberry and pink guava kettle sour that was conditioned on hibiscus tea. Soft strawberry shortcake aromas ooze through the olfactory. A slippery hit of raspberry and gunk of guava follow with a confluence of tart berries and a soft, delicate finish. Some pink panache adds vibrancy, without the toxic overload.

It happens on Thursday the 21st of September at the Working Title Taproom – 85 Doggett St, Newstead from 6pm.

You’ll find BRAINDEAD on tap throughout the festival at Netherworld, The Scratch, New Farm Cinemas and Working Title Brew Co.

2023 marks the third iteration of Feature Presentation, and daybills will be available to purchase at BORLFF merch desk or for delivery in October via www.borlff.com.

See the pieces in person at Netherworld or at New Farm Cinemas throughout the duration of the festival!

To celebrate the opening night of BORLFF, we invite the people of Brisbane to join us in the lobby of New Farm Cinemas for drinks, slime and music from 6.30pm to 8pm, followed by a screening of  Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) in STINK-O-VISION!

Each ticket comes with a Stink-O-Vision Scratch ‘n’ Sniff card and an ooze dripping TMNT enamel pin.

Ticketing not necessary to celebrate with us in the lobby – the ooze welcomes all!

Oozy attendees to DOUBLE FEATURES will get a free bonus BORLFF Barf Bag and BORLFF Sticker on Arrival.

On the second weekend of BORLFF, we kick off with a Troma double feature hosted by Brisbane trash royalty Andrew Leavold, founder of Australia’s best cult video store TRASH VIDEO. A filmmaker, published author, researcher, film festival curator, musician, TV presenter, and unrepentant, voracious cheerleader of the pulpier aspects of genre cinema, we couldn’t think of more educated proponent of trash cinema to lead the proceedings.

The Toxic Avenger + Class of Nuke ‘Em High happens for one ticket price on Friday the 29th of September at 8pm.

We’re frothing out the side of our Vimuville addled brains in excitement to be joined by Body Melt director Philip Brophy for a special Q&A ahead of the film that Star Burst proclaimed “packs more mucous, phlegm, puke, snot, slime & spit than you’d ever think possible.” The Q&A will be led by Alexei Toliopoulos from 5pm, followed by a 6pm screening of Body Melt on Saturday the 30th of September.

It wouldn’t be much of a slime film festival if we didn’t celebrate Australian slime excellence. Body Melt is the movie your disgusting older cousin would make if he put less effort into shopping online for exotic martial arts weapons and more effort into learning the craft of filmmaking.

In short: Health complications arise when the residents of a quiet Melbourne suburb begin taking an experimental dietary supplement. In long: A disquietingly recognisable coterie of Australian TV faces — including Andrew Daddo, Lisa McCune, and a man you almost certainly only know as ‘Harold from neighbours’ — are subject to the ooziest, snottiest, pukiest deaths you can imagine, in a movie with a sense of humour and pace taken directly from the Australian punk scene that director and writer Philip Brophy and co-writer Rod Bishop came up in.
