We were pretty bloody stoked to host Australia’s first ever ‘Kong Off’ original Donkey Kong showdown with the company of American arcade legend Richie Knucklez, who started the Kong Off across the pacific many years ago. He was flown over with the help of our friends at 1-Up Arcade and a handful of Donkey Kong fanatics!

Players flew in from over Australia and New Zealand to take part in what was an unsurprisingly challenging and close competition. Saturday was qualifying and Sunday was the finals. Many beers and good arcade chats were shared by some of the southern hemisphere’s most passionate Donkey Kong players. A one off Australian Kong Off back plate was designed by Buxton St and shared among the players, as well as Walter Day trading cards of many of the players that attended.

Highlights included the Netherworld’s first ever kill screen performed by Andrew Barrow on day 1 and the presentation of a portrait of Johnny Bonde to the gamer himself for winning our previous Netherworld competition ‘The Ultimate Denizen’.
